John Mayer Trashes Guitar Hero

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone John Mayer was asked for his thoughts on Guitar Hero:
How do you feel about the whole Guitar Hero-game phenomenon?
I don’t ever want to be the kind of guy who rails against whatever progress has taken place. But Guitar Hero was devised to bring the guitar-playing experience to the masses without them having to put anything into it. And having done both, there’s nothing like really playing guitar. I mean, what would you rather drive, a Ferrari or one of those amusement-park cars on a track?
See, John Mayer, the thing is, you can’t really compare playing real guitar and playing Guitar Hero. They are two separate things. Although Guitar Hero was designed based on a real guitar and tries to mimic its functions as best as possible, the fact is, a real guitar is designed for playing music, and Guitar Hero is a game designed for entertainment. A job which it does pretty well. One of the biggest reason Guitar Hero is so popular is because it is just plain fun.
Yeah, I’ll drive my Ferrari to the amusement park, but when i’m there you’ll be damn sure to see me on the go carts.
