Jimmy Page and Jack White Just Don’t Understand Guitar Hero

Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) and Jack White (The White Stripes) simply do not understand the game Guitar Hero.
During a press conference for a video documentary featuring the artists, both outspokenly bashed the music based video game.
According to reports:
The two guitarists said that they don’t feel video games are the ideal way to expose people to music or to teach them to play instruments.
This is extremely disheartening for myself and fans. Personally I could care less about what Jack White thinks, but Jimmy Page is a different story because of Led Zeppelin. There is no band I would like to see grace the screens of Guitar Hero than that of the great Led Zeppelin, and there is a growing list of fans who feel the same that have posted on the unofficial Petition to get Led Zeppelin on Guitar Hero.
The 2 artists also had a few other notable quotes displaying their somewhat ignorant and closed minded point of views.
Jimmy Page said,
“You think of the drum part that John Bonham did on Led Zeppelin’s first track on the first album, Good Times Bad Times, How many drummers in the world can play that part, let alone on Christmas morning?”
Jack White stated,
“It’s depressing to have a label come and tell you that [Guitar Hero] is how kids are learning about music and experiencing music.” While he added that he doesn’t try to limit “which format people should get their music in…if you have to be in a video game to get in front of them, that’s a little sad.”
I wish I had 5 minutes to explain to these 2 great artists that the game Guitar Hero and playing real instruments are completely different entity’s with different purposes! Guitar Hero is simply for fun. Its a game! People who play Guitar Hero don’t think they can really play instruments because of it. Or think that they are artists, although that can be debatable. Real instruments still take tons of practice and dedication to learn and they provide much more flexibility in terms of the sound and the music that can be created. Plastic instruments and Real Instruments should not be compared as they are not equals in any way and have different purposes.
Jack White is a dumb ass as far as his statement goes.
“if you have to be in a video game to get in front of them, that’s a little sad.”
Although there are exceptions, most of people featured in Guitar Hero are already popular and well known artists. Aerosmith has been around for decades, they did not NEED to be in a video game to get an audience for their music. Neither did Metallica obviously. And its not really that sad actually. Both of those artists and many others have had their music exposed to a new generation of people that otherwise might have never heard the music to be able to form an opinion on it. Is that a bad thing? I have learned of a few great artisted that I did not know of before for Guitar Hero. I researched these bands and found out they have a ton of other music that I enjoy. They are now permanently added to my music collection. Thousands of others have had the same experience, and I think that is an awesome thing!
Jimmy Page’s quote seems to focus more on the idea that their music is very complex and people shouldnt think they can play it becuase they can play it on Guitar Hero. This has been addressed above. But Jimmy Page, if you are concerned about people being interested in real instruments rather than Guitar Hero, how can you ignore the statistics that says since Guitar Hero was released, the interest in real musical instruments has noticably increased. This means that becuase of Guitar Hero, people are deciding they want to give the real thing a try, and going out and picking up real guitars. If you are not happy with a child picking up a guitar and trying to learn to play simply becuase they got the idea from Guitar Hero, you are retarded.
Ironically Jack White will just have to keep crying about Guitar Hero because the White Stripes song “Blue Orchid” is already slated to be released on Guitar Hero 5. ha
Getting Led Zeppelin on Guitar Hero is another story though. And unfortunately its something that may never happen.

Also the racontours or whatever Jack White’s sucky project is called was a DLC for GH Workd Tour right?
Anyway, I’m glad Jack White doesn’t like the idea in Guitar Hero because, well, I hate his music (specially icky thumb and conquest…). But as for Jimmy Page goes I’d really love playing Good Times Bad Times or The Ocean in a guitar hero (although I know how to play them in a real guitar too!).
It’s rather sad they people can’t see beyond the fact that this is just a game. Just a bit of fun.
Ultimately if you really love Guitar Hero the only place you can go to advance as a guitarist is picking up a real guitar. The game breeds budding guitar players.
id have to agree with jimmy page and jack white.
i think any time you spend on guitar hero you should spend on a real guitar instead.
Jack White is a fag
These two dinos need to stay in the retirement home and shut up about guitar hero games. They are just mad because they are running out of steam and fans and guitar hero games are building and building.I absolutely love being able to play great songs like Freebird and etc by TRUE artist. So you two little boys….shut up and back off Guitar hero.
I’ll start by saying Zeppelin was the greatest rock group ever. Saying that, these two filthy rich idiots should just keep quiet. The games are just fun, that’s it. Page calls it sad, screw him. These games introduce kids of all ages to rockthat came out before they were born. It keeps classic rock around forever. Turn of that MTV crap a play some guitar or drums. If I’m not mistaken the raconteurs and the white stripes are going to be on the new guitar hero 5. Funny.
Uhh… every idiot and ten year old I’ve talked to actually thinks they are playing those songs and actually have musical ability. Far from the truth… it IS sad when this amazing sonic art form is reduced to a plastic five button game controller and a fancy-pants HDTV. Ya might as well be playing Dance Revolution, ya fruit loops. Get a clue. I bet all these kiddies who think they’re real guitar heroes can’t even play ’3 Blind Mice’ on the recorder. Dummies!
