Activision claims that their new DJ Hero Game made the most money out of any new game this year, and I fully believe them.

However, the statistic is not as impressive as it sounds.

1. DJ Hero sold bundled with a Turntable with $100 price tag. This means that the other games in the running for this title would have had to sell 2 games for every 1 DJ Hero that was sold in order to keep even with them.

2. Last year was a slow year for new releases. And the few ok quality new releases that came out just never gained much popularity.

Regardless DJ Hero was a nice new and cool addition to the Guitar Hero Family that was well received by its players. We are glad to here that Activision will still be making another one despite sales not living up to expectations.

There are reports that Megadeth has been having “high level meetings” with the people over at Activision and Neversoft talking about the possibility of a some type of new Guitar Hero Megadeth game.

I have recently had two very important high-level meetings with the people from Activision and Neversoft, and we are talking about a lot of things, but a Guitar Hero box set is not as attractive to me and the people from Guitar Hero as the new idea that they offered me, as the creative stuff that we are talking about is over-the-moon! I just hope that someone doesn’t stand in the way of this happening. I know that there are a lot of really damaging results from our mothership (Warner) having some legal disputes with YouTube and Guitar Hero to name just a few.

I’m really interested in what they could be doing with new Guitar Hero games. They really need to do something new to renew some interest in the games after bombarding us with a ton of games in 2009. Megadeth would be a good option for a new Guitar Hero, but i’m still waiting for Guitar Hero Led Zeppelin!

The You Rock Guitar Controller is basically a fake Guitar Controller and a real Guitar Combined and made able to play Guitar Hero. This Guitar has actual string that the user must press and pluck in order to activate the icons that are flying at them on screen. The concept is cool, but I could see it being decently difficult for many people and with a $180 dollar price tag its not a cheap Guitar Controller.

Check out a trailer for the product below!

This is just one of those decisions that you just want to kick youself in the ass for.

The story is that Mad Catz, mainly a game peripheral company, was originally involved in the creation of an Xbox Version of the original Guitar Hero on launch. As you know the original Guitar Hero only debuted on PS2. This was Mad Catz fault. It seems they were in court with Konami at the same time and they paid $300,000 to get out of the Guitar Hero Contract. A contract that would have made them Millions.

“Guitar Hero was a game that we were actually involved with early on and pulled out because of a lawsuit with Konami,” Mad Catz president and CEO Darren Richardson tells us. “We were doing the Xbox SKU and that’s why there was only a Playstation 2 launch. That’s why. We were in there and we pulled out as a result of (the lawsuit) and (Red Octane and Harmonix) went forward and it turned out to be a success, a huge success.”

That one hurts.

“Everyone else made hundreds of millions and we paid money to not be a part of it,” Richardson said. “It was brilliant. I come up with these strokes of genius from time to time. That was my best.”

At least he admits he screwed up and has a sense of humor about it.

I like the guy.

It seems some company out there by the name of Omega Music Technology has come up with a device that allows you to use your real drum set to play Guitar Hero and Rock Band Games.

The device is called the Omega GM-1 System!

When I saw this device I was pretty impressed. It seems the device has sensors that wrap around and attach to the drum heads, cymbals, and bass pedal. When the drum is hit the sensors pick up the vibrations.

Below there is a video demo of the kit which is actually quite impressive. Expert level songs sound very much like the drums in the real songs when played!

The system starts at $250 for the 2-cymbal set and is $290 for the 3-cymbal set.

Don’t have a drum set?
They also sell drum sets starting at $500.

Its really crazy some of the things companies are coming out with now.

Today, we have a method of applying pressure to a finger or making different finger motions that executes a program that uses muscle sensing technology to read the output of a human using certain muscles as the trigger for these programs.

In the video below there is an short portion in which they test the muscle sensors with Guitar Hero. In order to press a certain colored button down , you would have to press the corresponding finger to your thumb. But what about the extra buttons on the harder levels?

Check out the video, its pretty interesting!
The Guitar Hero part starts at :57.

The concept is really cool and useful, but im not sure id like to use it to play any Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero 5 Game with it.

Wow, I am slightly tired of these types of posts. There have been multiple posts in the past about various musicians that decide to hate on Guitar Hero style games. The latest is Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones.

“It encourages kids not to learn, that’s the trouble. It makes less and less people dedicated to really get down and learn an instrument,” Wyman told BBC News. “I think it’s a pity so I’m not really keen on that sort of stuff.”

Well, Bill Wyman, if you took a second to actually look into the facts before voicing your opinion you would have known that instrument vendors have actually seen increases in sales of real live musical instruments.

I’m not saying that all people who play Guitar Hero want to run out and start learning guitar, but there is a decent percentage of people who do play the game and because of the game decide that they do want to learn a real instrument.

Again, playing Gutiar Hero and actually playing a real guitar are 2 completely different activities with different purposes.

I think I’m going to make this my last post about ignorant musicians. Enjoy!

This actually sounds like it would be pretty interesting, besides getting to play Guitar Hero for College Credit.

Ahh.. It reminds me of my college bowling class. Except I wasn’t paying $50, 000 a year to play like these NYU students are!

“Video games are an understudied area,” said Marcus, a psychology professor. ”People dismiss them unfairly, but ‘Guitar Hero’ is a good tool for teaching and I’m interested in the nature of learning.”

This course will cover the topic of video games and human cognition.

It seems that some parents are a bit worked up about the new Guitar Hero class being offered.

“I just wrote a big check here,” fumed Glen Jackson, whose son, Jeff, is an incoming freshman at NYU. “I’m not paying for him to study video games. It seems a bit watered down.”

Now I personally simply can not understand the “Why?” in this story or the thought process that led to such a pointless, yet oddly impressive task, but it is impressive none-the-less.

The kid in the video, who is known as “JRefleX93″, successfully solved 2 rubiks cubes while playing “Mr. Crowley” on the expert level on Guitar Hero. He used his right elbow to hit the strum bar while he held the rubiks cube in his right hand. The left hand was used obviously to hit the buttons on the Guitar Controller. After 6 minutes the kid finished with 2 complete Rubiks cubes and a 77% rating for the song.

Every single article I read on this video jokes on the kids future ability to ever get laid after such a geeky video, but I am sure there is some geeky little girl out there who will do the kid. Maybe he’ll even expand upon his accomplishment by playing Guitar Hero and solving Rubiks Cubes while doing her? The possibilities are endless, go for it kid.
